80s All-Star Singers Dolly Parton, Debbie Harry, Cyndi Lauper, and Gloria Estefan Unite for The Film “80 For Brady”

The first nostalgia-filled film will grace the big screen on February 3rd. Music legends Dianne Warren, Debbie Harry, Cyndi Lauper, Gloria Estefan, Belinda Carlisle, and Dolly Parton are writing and performing the best song to watch with it.

“80 for Brady” is a film about four female friends who are big fans of football legend Tom Brady. These elderly ladies travel from all different places to Houston for Super Bowl LI to watch their team, the New England Patriots, compete in the championship of the NFL. The four main characters are to be played by Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, Rita Moreno, and Sally Field. The film is co-produced by Tom Brady himself.

For a movie starring veteran actresses like the main cast, it was necessary to have a remarkable main song too. So the producers had Dianne Warren write “Gonna Be You” for the movie. Then Warren had the idea of adapting the main title and getting singers who dominated the 80s scene to sing the official soundtrack. Dolly Parton, Debbie Harry, Cyndi Lauper, and Belinda Carlisle answered the call. They were all overjoyed to be a part of this project, which tells the story of friendships that last decades.

“Gonna Be You’s” lyrics were appropriate for the film, as it tells an adventure of going out into the world and experiencing new things. And for the song to be in a nostalgic film with all-star cast members and platinum singers who peaked in the last few decades shows the audience how promising the film truly is. It gives the message that no matter your age when you are with your friends, you can still go on adventures and enjoy life to the fullest.

Warren said that the song was intentional. “When I wrote ‘Gonna Be You’ for ’80 for Brady’, I wanted to write a song that celebrated these women’s deep friendship. Since ‘80s’ was in the title, I got a crazy idea, why not get some of the most iconic singers from the ‘80s, who are still amazing and always will be, to all sing it?”

Working on this project reunites Dolly Parton with her Steel Magnolias co-stars. She previously worked on the film with Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, and Sally Field. “Working with Jane, Lily, and Sally Field again, my older pals that are in the movie, and then working with all the wonderful artists on the song and video, like Belinda Carlisle, Cyndi Lauper, Gloria Estefan, and Debbie Harry, was a joy. This is very exciting to me. I love feeling like I’m still part of something great, and being with those gals that we know are great was a thrill,” the Jolene singer said.

80 for Brady, in a nutshell, is a celebration of music and friendships, not just because of its story. But because of the real-life relationship between the all-star artists in front of the camera and behind the microphone, as proved by Parton’s statement. The movie will be in cinemas on February 3rd, and it is something to watch out for a dose of nostalgia.
