In her contemplation of the alleged fallout with Selena Gomez, Francia Raísa decided to clarify any misconceptions surrounding the speculation that she was compelled or coerced into donating her kidney to the pop star back in 2017.
In 2017, the “How I Met Your Father” actress made a generous gesture by donating one of her kidneys to Selena Gomez who was battling lupus, an autoimmune and inflammatory disease that can lead to organ failure.
Fortunately, the transplant was successful. However, rumors circulated last year suggesting a fallout between the two when the pop star referred to Taylor Swift as her “only friend in the industry.”
This led to wild speculation on the internet, with some suggesting that Francia had not volunteered to donate her kidney, but was instead put in an awkward position to save Selena.
However, Francia set the record straight on the Aug. 1 episode of the Good Guys podcast. She stated firmly, “I’ve said this before, but that was a time when I just felt it in my heart. No one forced me to do anything.” The 35-year-old actress continued, explaining that her decision to donate her kidney came purely from the genuine kindness in her heart, and she has been immensely blessed ever since.
Francia Addresses Rumored Feud with Selena: “There’s No Beef”
Concerning the rumored feud with Selena, Francia straightforwardly stated, “There’s no beef.”
Francia also admitted that she had never anticipated that her kidney donation would create such a buzz and become fodder for the internet. Reflecting on what led her to donate her kidney to Selena, Francia had previously shared her experience with Self magazine in 2018. She recounted how Selena broke the news to her, saying, “When I found out I was a match, it wasn’t in the way I’d expected. One day I got a phone call from Selena, a FaceTime, and she’s like: ‘You’re a match!'”
During that time, Francia admitted feeling “angry” that someone else had informed Selena before she could share the decision herself. She had wanted to tell Selena in her own way and needed that time to process everything.
In a heartwarming gesture, Selena paid tribute to Francia on her birthday last month, calling her a “special human being” in an Instagram post. Selena expressed her love, saying, “No matter where life takes us, I love you.”
