Let’s all say it, Serena Williams is THAT girl! She has it all, from where we’re standing. She had a long, illustrious career doing what she loves best, playing tennis, ‘retired’ at a young age, started a family, and now, has just welcomed her second baby with her husband Alexis Ohanian. On top of it all, Serena has always been a positive person you literally can’t hate on her.
Even though Williams has now retired and is enjoying a peaceful life, she has made her mark in Tennis history, gaining award after award for her magnificent plays on the field. And now that she is playing on the familial side of things, she is still winning!
Serena Williams married Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian back in 2017. The couple has enjoyed a relatively private life, despite their celebrity status. Ohanian himself, is highly successful in his chosen field. He is the co-founder of the popular social media site, Reddit, which boasts millions of users all over the globe.
Williams and Ohanian welcomed their first baby back in September of 2017. The now 5-year-old Olympia is officially a big sister to a baby girl named Adira River Ohanian. Williams’ second child was born just last Tuesday, August 22th, in Florida.
The Williams-Ohanian family announced the news with a family photo. Ohanian then posted on social media, “I’m grateful to report our house is teaming with love: a happy & healthy newborn girl and happy & healthy mama. Feeling grateful. @serenawilliams you’ve now given me another incomparable gift — you’re the GMOAT. Thanks to all the amazing medical staff who took care of my wife & our daughter I’ll never forget the moment I introduced @olympiaohanian to her baby sister.” We assume GMOAT stands for “Greatest Mom of All Time.”
The Serena Williams Fund for Pregnant Women
Both Ohanian and Williams are overjoyed with their growing family. We can all recall that Williams had a hard time with their firstborn, Olympia. She had a pulmonary embolism after the birth of Olympia. So in response to what she went through, Williams had been very open to her struggles with pregnancy in hopes of raising awareness about the complications that could happen.
Childbirth had been an eye-opening experience for the tennis legend. Since then, she has been very public about supporting advocacies for women’s health and wellness, especially during pregnancy. She wrote in an essay for Elle magazine, “I know I’m not the only one. Black women are three to four times more likely to die during childbirth than white women. I was one of the lucky ones.”
To find more ways to help women and mothers-to-be, Williams started the Serena Williams Fund. The organization raises money for education, awareness, and research about blood clots during pregnancy, focusing on women from different races.
It seems because she has been so helpful to mothers and pregnant women, she was blessed with another angel, baby Adira. We can all remember her announcement of Adira’s coming by showcasing her baby bump during the MET Gala this year. Now, she, her husband, and her daughter Olympia, are very excited to be expanding their family.
