“Beckham,” the self-produced documentary of renowned soccer player, David Beckham and his wife, Posh Spice Victoria Beckham, dropped on Netflix last week. People were excited to see how the Beckhams live now after the onslaught of fame and scandal the family faced in the early 2000s. One of the spiciest topics of conversation in the “Beckham” docuseries is the episode when the married couple talks about the alleged affair with David.
In 2004, David Beckham was a pro player for Real Madrid, when he met Rebecca Loos, who was a PR executive for the club at the time. The two allegedly got close and were even photographed together in Spain. But the catch is, David has been married to Posh Spice of the Spice Girls, Victoria for five years by 2004. Rebecca broke her story of the alleged affair to News of the World in the same year. And she was allegedly awarded a six-figure amount by the agency.
After the news broke, the mainstream media descended on David Beckham, calling him many things, and for the second time after his red card during a match with Argentina for the World Cup, David became the most hated man in the United Kingdom. Rebecca, on the other hand, seemingly benefited from the infamy her story gained her, and the fact that David was dismissive and kept mum about it for so many years. She was invited as a guest in different reality shows and became active in the entertainment industry until 2008.
Fans were collectively shocked when the Beckhams included the affair fiasco in their documentary. However, they didn’t really talk about what happened, but how it impacted their family. David went on to say that he “felt physically sick every day…Every time that we woke up we felt there was something else…we both felt at the time that we were not losing each other, but drowning.”
Victoria was also emotional when she recounted the experience. “It was the hardest period for us. Because it felt like the world was against us.”
The vilification eventually died down, now that almost 20 years have passed. However, that moment in time was an unforgettable experience for the family because it was a test that they were able to surpass.
But after the Netflix show seemingly rehashed the affair issue, people were wondering, where was Rebecca Loos now? Well, paparazzi were able to take photos of her walking in the streets of Hemsedal, in Norway, where she now lives with her family. Rebecca has settled down in Southern Norway with her doctor husband, Sven, and her kids. She met Sven on a reality show and decided to come to Norway to get away from the public eye.
When asked what she thought of the Netflix docuseries, she told MailOnline, “He was the one who was married. He was the one who seduced me. He was the one who broke the promises and behaved badly – yet I was the one who was vilified.”
But Loos seems to have come to peace with what happened in the past. She said, “There’s nowhere else we’d rather be. Our children are the happiest in this environment, and we’ve made friendships that have lasted through thick and thin.”
