Ellen DeGeneres is gearing up for her final comedy special, set to debut on Netflix.
The special, titled Ellen DeGeneres: For Your Approval, will be available to viewers globally on September 24. This marks her return to Netflix nearly six years after her first comedy special, Ellen DeGeneres: Relatable, premiered in 2018.
Joel Gallen directs Ellen DeGeneres: For Your Approval, and DeGeneres, her wife Portia de Rossi, Ben Winston, and Fulwell 73 Productions produce it.
At 66, DeGeneres is concluding her comedy career with this special. According to Netflix, the special will see the comedian getting personal and reflecting on her life since stepping away from show business.
The show will explore her experiences, from raising chickens to dealing with the challenges of celebrity life. DeGeneres will delve into her stand-up roots, offering humor and insight into both the mundane and absurd aspects of life.
This special follows the end of DeGeneres’ long-running talk show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, which concluded in May 2022 after 19 seasons.
In her final monologue, DeGeneres expressed gratitude to her audience and reflected on her impact over the years. She emphasized her hope that her show brought joy and comfort to viewers and encouraged them to be their true, authentic selves.
After her talk show ended, DeGeneres announced her Ellen’s Last Stand… Up tour, which started in San Diego on June 19. The tour, initially scheduled for 27 dates, faced a setback in July when Ticketmaster canceled several shows in Dallas, San Francisco, Seattle, and Chicago.
During her tour, DeGeneres addressed her career’s future, making it clear that her Netflix special would be her final performance.
At a summer tour stop, she told fans, “This is the last time you’re going to see me. After my Netflix special, I’m done.”
