Taylor Swift has awed the world with her Eras Tour, but she is not done yet. Aside from announcing the rerecording of her album, 1989, which will be released in late October, Taylor also announced that she will be showing an Eras Tour film in theaters.
Fans went wild. For many fans, the Eras Tour was only a dream, since, no matter how many stadiums Taylor performed at, there will always be many of her followers unable to attend. So to see the whole concert film is like going to the tour itself.
The Eras Tour Film has just been announced last week, and already, AMC theaters had record-breaking sales. The film was set to be released on October 13, but Swifties all over the country came flooding in to buy presale tickets to AMC Theaters and they broke the record for movie presales in just a few hours.
After just three hours of announcing the presale, AMC Theaters reported a total of $26 million worth of sale for the tickets to the film. The previous record was held by “Spider-man: No Way Home,” with $16.9 million presold tickets in one day back in 2021.
Everyone could’ve predicted that the Eras Tour Film would be a hit based on how successful her U.S. leg of touring has been. Swifties are excited to see Taylor Swift in all her glory, reliving her best hits to audiences never before seen. And TayTay is also excited to share the moment with her fans. She wrote, on Twitter,
“The Eras Tour has been the most meaningful, electric experience of my life so far and I’m overjoyed to tell you that it’ll be coming to the big screen soon.”
However, not all Swifties are happy with the announcement. Although the Eras Tour will soon fly internationally with locations around the world, the seats are very limited compared to the number of Taylor’s fans.
So when it was announced that there was going to be a movie about the tour, people were initially excited. But their hopes of getting a glimpse into the concerts were crushed when it was revealed that the film would only be screened in the United States. Fans all over the globe are clamoring for an international release so they could also share the experience.
But there is no definite word on whether this U.S. limited screening will continue or if Swift will give in to her international fans and have it available worldwide.
In the meantime, theater executives are positive about this upcoming film. Jerramy Hainline, Senior Vice President of Fandango Ticketing, said, “Taylor Swift is giving moviegoing fans and the entire industry the ultimate gift by bringing ‘Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour’ concert film to the big screen.” He added, “Not only is Taylor Swifts’s concert film the best first-day ticket seller of the year on Fandango, but the concert film is performing like the superhero she is and ranking among the best first-day ticket sellers of all time from franchises like Marvel, Star Wars, DC Comics, and more.”
