The outrageous price of Taylor Swift tickets for her Era’s Tour has been a popular pop-culture topic. But now tickets to see the pop star are the lowest they’ve been in months.
Tickets for her Era’s Tour have been particularly pricey. But fans had the opportunity to catch her June 23 Minneapolis, MN U.S. Bank Stadium show for just $488 before fees. You may think that’s a lot of money, but consider that the tickets were going for $1030 before fees just three days before the show.
They plummeted in price by less than 50% on the day of the show, presumably in an effort to make some income off seats that would otherwise be empty.
Prices for tickets to the Eras Tour (and perhaps some of your other favorite events) typically drop on the day of the show. But the discount Minneapolis fans were offered was the biggest drop yet.
Why are Taylor Swift Tickets So Expensive?
So why are Taylor Swift tickets so expensive? The driving factor is demand.
Swift is a popular artist. As soon as her tickets go on sale, there are thousands of bots that pick them up and put them on ‘scalper sites’ like StubHub. So, the tickets are initially reasonably priced, (usually between $49 and $449) but they are so hard to acquire that most people can’t get their hands on them until the price increases.
Taylor’s Take On It
Taylor took to Instagram in November of 2022 to express her displeasure with the high prices being charged for her concerts.
“I’m not going to make excuses for anyone because we asked them, multiple times if we could handle this kind of demand and we were assured they could. It’s truly amazing that 2.4 million people got tickets, but it really pisses me off that a lot of them feel like they went through several bear attacks to get them.”
What Can Fans Do?
Experts believe that fans can stop rising ticket prices by refusing to buy overpriced tickets. If fans refuse to buy the tickets, demand will fall along with prices. However, while some fans will walk away due to sticker shock, others are okay with paying more.
It should also be noted that the Eras tour is the first tour Swift has done since 2018. She planned to hit the road a couple of years later, but the pandemic had different plans for her. Her time off increased demand so fans want to see her even more… and they are okay with paying premium for the experience.
What Fans are Saying
Fans are not happy about paying so much for Swift tickets. But most report they are pleased about splurging, especially for the long awaited Era’s Tour.
One fan explained why they paid so much in a Reddit post. “It was resale as a) I am an international fan who flew 8600 miles just to see her and clearly I don’t have a Capital One card and b) Ticketmaster is just too much stress to handle but I would do anything to see her so I bit the bullet and splurged on tickets. Was it worth it? To see Taylor definitely.”
“I paid $380 after fees and bought the ticket on Stub Hub a week before the Arlington concert. Armpit section to the stage, couldn’t see the main stage at all, but I’d say it was worth it. I wish I could have paid more for a floor seat,” another fan wrote.
“I paid an eye-watering $3500 something for 2 mid-section tickets for ATL night. Since most fans seem to have paid a few hundred dollars, this was definitely a ton of money,” wrote a third.
Fans also attest that Swift puts on quite a show. Her current tour, the Era’s Tour, is appropriately named as it takes you through the different eras of Swift with costumes, props, and lighting to fit every stage of her journey.
“Eras gives you a taste of everything which is so fun! Each era has its own theme and mood and that was so cool, loved seeing all the visuals come together. I got to hear some songs that I really wanted to hear live,” a fan explained.
Another fan referred to it as “Taylor Swift the Musical.”
