Len Goodman, the former head judge of Strictly Come Dancing, has passed away at 78 years old, his manager confirmed.
Len Goodman, a former judge on “Dancing With the Stars,” passed away at 78 years old. He was an English dance expert and was a part of the ballroom competition from 2005 until last year.
Goodman’s manager confirmed that he died on Saturday at a hospice in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, surrounded by his family, after battling bone cancer. Goodman was a popular figure, best known for his witty humor and critiques while featuring on Strictly from its launch in 2004 until 2016.
He also appeared on the US version of the show, Dancing with the Stars, from 2005 until 2022.
Jackie Gill, Goodman’s manager released a statement on Monday, announcing the unfortunate news of his passing.
“It is with great sadness to announce that Len Goodman has passed away peacefully, aged 78,” read the statement. “A much loved husband, father, and grandfather who will be sorely missed by family, friends, and all who knew him.”
Goodman became known for his enthusiastic delivery as he awarded contestants a score of seven points, which ultimately led to the creation of his famous catchphrase.
His fellow judge and the longest-serving member of Strictly, Craig Revel Horwood, paid tribute to Goodman and his showmanship by saying, “Len Goody Goodman is what I always called him, and ‘It’s a ten from Len & seveeeeern’ will live with me forever.”
Horwood added that Goodman was a gorgeous colleague and dear friend.
Tess Daly, the co-host of Strictly Come Dancing, expressed her deep sadness at the passing of Len Goodman, describing him as a beautiful man with a warm and genuine personality. She remembered the fun they had on set and his love and passion for dancing, along with his famously cheeky smile that lit up the screen. Daly added that Goodman was never a seven for her, but always a perfect ten.
Bruno Tonioli, another former judge on the show, shared a picture of himself with Goodman and declared that there would never be anyone like him. He expressed that Goodman would always be his perfect 10.
Dame Darcey Bussell, yet another ex-judge, praised Goodman for his professional, funny, and lovable nature. She also recalled how he provided her with immense support during her time on Strictly, expressing how lucky she was to have worked with him.
Former Strictly contestant Susanna Reid expressed her shock and sadness at the news of Goodman’s passing, describing him as an absolute legend and the definition of a proper gent. She reminisced about the time when he described her Samba dance as “all bounce, bum, and bongos,” showing his mischievous turn of phrase.
Goodman’s legacy as a beloved judge on Strictly Come Dancing and Dancing With the Stars will continue to live on through his memorable catchphrases, his charming personality, and his valuable contributions to the dance industry.
