Former President Jimmy Carter Enters Home Hospice

James “Jimmy” Carter, the 39th president of the United States, was placed in hospice at his home so he could be with his loved ones.

Jimmy Carter started his political career as the governor of Georgia after his time in the navy. He then ran for and served as the president of the United States after defeating Gerald R. Ford. His term as the 39th president lasted from 1977 to 1981. He was defeated in his bid for re-election and succeeded by Ronald Reagan.

Even if Carter only served as president for four years, his good intentions and impact on the country were felt. He improved the budget deficit of the time and helped create more jobs for the people. In a time of many changes in the world, Jimmy Carter did his best to lead the American people into prosperity.

After his term in the White House ended, Carter and his family moved back to his hometown in Plains, Georgia. But even if he wasn’t into national politics anymore, Jimmy Carter continued to work on his advocacies. He and his wife, Rosalynn, opened The Carter Center in 1982.

The Carter Center was the continuation of Jimmy’s desire to serve his fellow human beings. It is a human rights organization dedicated to bettering the lives of people in various countries and continents.

Since the establishment of The Carter Center, Jimmy and Rosalynn have traveled all over the world to help people from different backgrounds improve their lives. Their organization’s mission is to provide aid through health and housing programs.

One notable achievement of the organization was providing safe drinking water to countries with guinea worm epidemics. When The Carter Center started advocating and teaching ways to produce clean water for consumption in the 1980s, there were about 3.5 million people infected with the parasite. But in 2021, the organization only reported 14 human cases of guinea worm infestation.

Because of his dedication to human rights, Jimmy Carter was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for “his decades of untiring effort to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, to advance democracy and human rights, and to promote economic and social development.”

Despite their old age, both Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter have continued their humanitarian efforts throughout the years. In 2019, a video of Jimmy went viral as he was helping build homes for Habitat for Humanity. He was praised by netizens for his devotion to helping even with a bandaged head from falling while building houses.

Jimmy Carter is the longest-living United States president at 98 years old. He celebrated his birthday back in October of last year. That’s why news of his home hospice has saddened his many supporters. But after a few visits to the hospital, the Carter family said the former president “decided to spend his remaining time at home with his family and receive hospice care instead of additional medical intervention.”

The Carter family asks for privacy from the public and thanks everyone for expressing their concern for the welfare of the former president.
