Harry and Meghan’s Reaction to King Charles’ Coronation: An Inside Look at Their Attendance and Roles in the Royal Ceremony

  • The invitation for the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla is filled with delicate allusions to the British monarchy.
  • There are concerns within the Royal Family that the attendance of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle at the event could draw too much attention away from the occasion.
  • The coronation of King Charles III will mark his official ascent to the throne as the monarch.

The coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla is fast approaching, and there is just one month left until the ceremony. Buckingham Palace has now revealed the invitation for the highly-anticipated event, which will take place on May 6. The artwork on the invitation, shown in images released on April 4, features a nature motif hand-painted in watercolor and gold foil detailing. The invitations, which will be printed on recycled card, will be sent out to 2,000 guests.

The complete list of guests for the coronation is being kept confidential by the Palace. However, a spokesperson for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle disclosed in March that the couple had received an “email correspondence” from the office of the King regarding the upcoming event.

Due to recent difficulties between Harry, Meghan, and the Royal Family, resolving several significant matters has become increasingly challenging.

Prior to Prince Harry’s televised interview with ITV, a teaser trailer for the show, “Harry: The Interview,” was released in January 2023. During the interview, the royal was asked by journalist Tom Bradby whether he would attend his father’s coronation.

In response, Prince Harry stated, “There are many variables between now and then. However, I remain open to the idea. It is ultimately up to them to decide. We have much to discuss, and I hope they will be willing to engage in dialogue.”

No information is currently available regarding whether Harry and Meghan will attend the event.

According to a source who spoke with ET, while King Charles III may desire Prince Harry and his grandchildren’s attendance at the coronation, the Royal Family is apprehensive that it could detract attention from the momentous occasion.

The source, who is closely connected to the Royal Family, revealed that there is a worry that if Harry and Meghan attend the London ceremony on May 6, it could shift the focus away from the King himself.

“The big concern is the chaos that could overshadow the coronation if they attend,” the source says. “No one wants to see the focus taken away from King Charles with the press focused on Harry and Meghan and past family squabbles.”

If the Duke and Duchess of Sussex decide to attend the coronation, which coincides with their son Prince Archie’s fourth birthday, it will mark their initial face-to-face encounter with Charles since Harry’s bombshell memoir, “Spare,” was published.
