Kevin Costner and his spouse, Christine Baumgartner, have ended their marriage of 18 years. They have three children together, Cayden, 15, Hayes, 14, and Grace, 12.
Christine Baumgartner, Kevin Costner’s wife of 18 years, has initiated the dissolution of their marriage.
A representative for the iconic actor confirmed the news, stating that Mr. Costner is saddened by the unfortunate turn of events beyond his control.
“It is with great sadness that circumstances beyond his control have transpired which have resulted in Mr. Costner having to participate in a dissolution of marriage action,” Costner’s representative said in a statement Tuesday. “We ask that his, Christine’s, and their children’s privacy be respected as they navigate this difficult time.”
Costner and Baumgartner got married in 2004 at the actor’s Colorado ranch, surrounded by loved ones, including Tim Allen and Kevin’s co-star from “Dances with Wolves,” Mary McDonnell. The couple have three children: Cayden, 15, Hayes, 14, and daughter Grace, 12.
In a 2018 interview with Closer Weekly, Kevin revealed that fear had prevented him from marrying Christine, who had expressed her desire to have children. He initially doubted his ability to be an effective father and handle the responsibility of having more children. However, he eventually realized the risk of losing Christine, who was willing to spend the rest of her life with him, was greater than his fear.
“Fear kept me from marrying Christine,” Costner said. “I woke up and thought, ‘Am I going to lose a beautiful woman who is willing to be with me to my very last breath because I am afraid to say yes to a child?’”
According to Kevin, this realization was all it took for him to want to marry the handbag designer. He acknowledged that sometimes the thing you fear the most can end up saving your life.

The Field of Dreams star has been married twice in his lifetime. His first marriage was to Cindy Costner, which lasted from 1978 to 1994. The former couple shares three children, namely, Annie (39), Lily (36), and Joe (35).
Costner also has another child, Liam (27), with his former partner, Bridget Rooney.
Discussions about Kevin Costner’s return to “Yellowstone” persist while news of his divorce continues to surface. He portrays John Dutton on the hit Paramount+ series that debuted in 2018.
In the previous month, fans were left wondering when the show would return after Costner, creator Taylor Sheridan, and other cast members were absent from the show’s scheduled PaleyFest panel.
During the event, Paramount Network’s President of Development and Production, Keith Cox, expressed his confidence that Costner would continue with the show, although some online outlets speculated that the series might be coming to an end. The release date for the second half of the fifth season is currently unknown.
Meanwhile, on May 1st, Costner used his Instagram account to promote his new movie, “Horizon: An American Saga.”
He shared a screenshot of his casting, describing the upcoming movie as “the epic that keeps getting more epic.”
