The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. At least that’s the case for Kingston Rossdale, son of pop star Gwen Stefani and Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale, and stepson of country star Blake Shelton. He made his music debut at Ole Red, Blake Shelton’s live music venue in Tishomingo, Oklahoma, on Friday.
The Performance
The performance shows the 17-year-old talking confidently to the audience before breaking into song. He was accompanied by a guitarist and keyboardist. He hit some impressive notes much to the audience’s delight. He also played guitar on a couple of tunes.
The songs he performed appeared to be original.
The set was captured on video that was posted to TikTok and YouTube. It has been shared by several social media and news sites.
“Love you guys, thank you for being here. Thank you, it means a lot to me, really. I hope you guys have a great night, enjoy yourselves,” Kingston says before exiting the stage.
Parent’s Reaction
Kingston’s performance filled his mother and stepfather with pride. Gwen was captured on film wiping away tears as he sang.
Shelton was also beaming. He accepted a warm hug from his stepson after the performance was over. He also teased Kingston’s performance on social media on Wednesday, two days before the show.
He took to X, formerly Twitter, stating he would “turn over the stage to a debut artist that will be doing their VERY FIRST public performance. See you at the @OleRed Tishomingo Doghouse!!!! You never know who else may show up.”
Gavin was not present at the performance and has not made a public announcement about his son’s new venture.
Follow Up Performance
After Kingston finished his set, his mother and stepfather took the stage for a rendition of the No Doubt song “Don’t Speak.” Footage of the performance was posted to TikTok by the same user who posted Kingston’s performance.
“POV, you live in the same small town as Blake Shelton & Gwen Stefani and get to see them perform together EVERY YEAR,” they captioned the video.
Family Matters
Kingston is one of three sons Stefani shares with Rossdale. Their other sons are Zuma, 14, and Apollo, 9.
Shelton has discussed his position on being a father figure to the boys. He says he takes his responsibilities “very serious” but “I also have a blast with it. I’m not gonna lie. I don’t take it so serious that I’m not enjoying the time, because I really am, especially now that we’re five years into this thing. I can’t imagine my life without these kids now.”
“I love my stepfather, and I looked up to him, and he’s like a father to me, so I have a good inspiration in my life for how to do this, and the kind of stepdad I want to be,” he went on to say.
Gavin is kicking off a series of U.S. tour dates with his band Bush later this month. Stefani has California shows lined up in September and November.
