The 2023 Met Gala happened yesterday, Monday May 1. Known as fashion’s biggest night, this Metropolitan Museum of Art fundraising event brings it in a big way. Here are some highlights from last night’s affair.
Karl Lagerfeld Theme
Every Met Gala has a different theme. It’s usually ‘punk’ or ‘camp’. But this year’s event honored designer Karl Lagerfeld, who passed away in 2019.
Lagerfeld was an extremely talented designer who is best known for having revitalized Chanel’s fashion house. But he used his platform to make unseemly remarks towards women and marginalized groups. Therefore, the choice to honor him was met with some controversy.
Nevertheless, many of the guests stepped out in Lagerfeld designs and Lagerfeld inspired designs. Lily Collins wore a Vera Wang gown with Karl Lagerfeld’s name spelled out on the train. Jared Leto and Doja Cat dressed as Lagerfeld’s cat Choupette.
Nicole Kidman Wears Chanel #5 Dress
Nicole Kidman showed up in the same dress she wore in her Chanel #5 commercial 20 years ago. The dress was a Lagerfeld design.
Michaela Cole Hosted
Michaela Cole was the host of the event. The 2022 Vogue cover star showed up impeccably dressed. Her affinity for Chanel made her the ideal choice for the role.
However, her pre-Met jitters showed through. She revealed to host La La Anthony that words from Anna Wintour helped her keep her composure. Wintour advised her to just be herself.

Fashion model Karlie Kloss made her pregnancy public showing up in a fitted gown that revealed her baby bump. Serena Williams is not yet showing, but publicly announced that she is expecting her second child with husband Alexis Ohanian.
Tribute to Lagerfeld’s Cat
Earlier we mentioned Jared Leto’s ensemble. The actor/rock star showed up in a full furry cat suit paying tribute to Lagerfeld’s cat Choupette. Doja Cat took a more subtle take on it by wearing cat makeup and a cat-eared catsuit.
Brittney Grimer Celebrated Her Homecoming
Basketball star Brittney Grimer made an appearance on the red carpet alongside wife Cherelle Grimer. The two were celebrating her return home after her detainment in a Russian prison.
Janelle Monae Pulls Off Three Red Carpet Looks
Janelle Monae took a layered look to the next level wearing a Thom Brown coat over a hoop skirt ensemble which she eventually took off to reveal a bikini underneath.
