Drama in the media extends to CNBC. Over the last few days, there have been several controversies with major media outlets in the United States. Tucker Carlson and Don Lemon were fired from Fox and CNN respectively. Now, issues in NBCUniversal have surfaced.
Over the weekend, an investigation into a sexual harassment allegation was concluded. As a result, NBCUniversal Chief Executive Jeff Shell was fired without any promise of severance pay.
The issue started when Hadley Gamble, a Middle East correspondent and anchor of the media group filed a complaint against Jeff Shell for sexual harassment. The allegations were taken seriously by NBCUniversal considering it involved a chief executive of the company.
Comcast, the parent company of NBCUniversal admitted to the Securities & Exchange Commission that they brought in external counsel to handle the situation. They also filed the findings of the investigation.
“During the investigation, evidence was uncovered that corroborated the allegations,” stated the Monday filing of Comcast.
As a consequence of his actions, Jeff Shell stepped down from his role immediately and acknowledged the allegations against him.
Shell was previously known for his no-tolerance attitude against bad behavior withing NBC. That is why his termination from the company is so controversial.
