One Tree Hill Reboot: What We Know

Exciting news for One Tree Hill fans! Sophia Bush and Hilarie Burton are actively developing a reboot of the beloved series.

In late August, Bush and Burton shared their vision for this revival on Instagram. They plan to executive produce alongside former co-star Danneel Ackles. Their message resonated with fans: “What if you can really go back home? This is our chance to work with amazing creatives, celebrate our history, and honor our fans.”

They emphasized their connection with fans, stating, “There’s only One Tree Hill, after all. You—the #OTHfam—prove it’s a real place where everything is safe.”

As excitement builds, many fans are curious about how the new series will differ from the original. Media confirmed that the reboot is in early development.

What Will the One Tree Hill Reboot Be About?

The cast remains tight-lipped about specific plot details. However, Deadline reports that the reboot will occur 20 years after the original series. Best friends Brooke (Bush) and Peyton (Burton) will return as mothers facing challenges similar to those from their youth. Jana Kramer, who played Alex Dupré, hinted that Brooke and Peyton would navigate parenthood together.

Which Cast Members Will Return?

Currently, Bush and Burton are the only confirmed cast members. However, several original stars have expressed interest in returning. During her podcast, Kramer mentioned early talks with Burton about joining the reboot before the news broke. “Their intention is to bring back people who fit the story,” she explained.

At a fan Q&A in Wilmington, N.C., James Lafferty, who played Nathan, shared his thoughts on his character’s future. “I’d love to see what Nathan is doing now. It would be great if he’s with Haley and their family, thriving together.”

Bryan Greenberg, known for playing Jake, joked about his character still being in legal trouble. “Jake is probably hiding in Panama, playing guitar and waiting for Jenny to visit.”

Antwon Tanner, who played Skills, expressed his eagerness for the reboot. “If they do it, tell Netflix to hire me!” he said enthusiastically.

Which Cast Members Won’t Return?

Not everyone will reprise their roles. Paul Johansson, who played Dan, indicated he would not return. “I’ve moved on. I had a great time playing him, but he’s gone,” he noted.

Chad Michael Murray, who portrayed Lucas Scott, reportedly has “no plans to return,” according to Deadline.

Who Is Producing the One Tree Hill Reboot?

Bush, Burton, and Ackles are spearheading the production. They’re joined by executive producers Becky Hartman Edwards and Jensen Ackles. Burton highlighted the importance of telling stories from a “female lens.”

She explained, “Working with a team of women to look at these characters is vital to me. I’m excited to collaborate with people I admire.”

Burton also mentioned that the stories she wishes to tell now differ from those she focused on at 20. This perspective will greatly influence the reboot.

Where Will the One Tree Hill Reboot Film?

The filming location remains unconfirmed, but many cast members fondly recall Wilmington, N.C., where the original series filmed. Stephen Colletti, who played Chase, described filming there as a “fun experience.”

“I grew up in California, and working on the show was a joy,” he recalled. “I thought it was over when we wrapped, but here we are, celebrating 21 years!”

Where Will the One Tree Hill Reboot Be Available to Stream?

While the original series aired on The WB and later The CW, the reboot is expected to stream on Netflix, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

As fans eagerly await more details, it’s clear that the spirit of One Tree Hill is set to continue, welcoming both old and new fans alike!
