All eyes were on Buckingham Palace in the lead-up to King Charles’s coronation, with speculations spreading around whether or not Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke, and Duchess of Sussex, would attend the service.

Finally, on April 12, the Palace announced that Prince Harry would indeed be present at his father’s crowning, but the couple’s two children and Meghan Markle would not be joining him. A statement released on April 10 clarified that “The Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet,” citing concerns over the intense public scrutiny that often follows the couple’s every move.

According to a close friend of Meghan’s, who spoke to People later that month, the Duchess of Sussex had wanted to support her father-in-law but ultimately chose to prioritize her family’s wellbeing.

“There’s always going to be that other side challenging their reasoning, and who wants to put themselves in that position?” the anonymous source said.

Town & Country has now revealed that Harry’s trip to the UK will be brief, lasting less than 48 hours, as he is determined to return to the US in time for the last few hours of his son Archie’s fourth birthday.

Despite the absence of the popular Duchess, it remains to be seen whether Meghan will tune in to the historic event from afar. The time difference between California and London means that the ceremony will air early in the morning for the American royals.
