Madonna, now 64 years old, took the stage at the awards show on Sunday, February 5th.

The “Material Girl” singer showed up to introduce Sam Smith and Kim Petras, dressed as the devil, and performed “Unholy” in a red leather minidress in a cage at the annual music festival. On Sunday, February 5th, 2023, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, the two stars performed at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards.

Madonna has spoken out about the criticism she faced after her Grammys performance.

Many of Madonna’s fans immediately said that the singer should concentrate on aging gracefully and that her face was full of cosmetic surgery. They believe that she should stop having plastic surgeries.

Fans labeled Madonna as the main culprit of her ageist agenda as she is the only one to blame for drastically altering her facial appearance. One of her fans said, “I’m a fan, but I need to call you out on this.”

Another individual chimed in, “I’m a tremendous admirer, but just stop the cosmetic operations, please.”

But, as Madonna herself noted, the focus was on her outfit and not on the introduction she gave to the band.

Backstage, she posted a video on her Instagram. She could not fathom how people were not concentrating on what she said in her speech. She talked about expressing appreciation for her co-artists courage, named Sam and Kim. Instead, they decided to only speak about close-up images of her taken with a long lens camera by a press photographer that would likely contort anyone’s face.

She said that she was caught in the spotlight of ageism and sexism, which permeates our culture. A society that fails to recognize women beyond the age of 45 and feels the need to penalize them for maintaining their independent spirit, strong work ethic, and spirit of adventure.

Despite being mocked by the press from the start of her career, Madonna continues, “I have never apologized for any of the creative choices I have made nor the way that I look or dress, and I’m not going to start.”

Finally, Madonna voiced that she is looking forward to many more years of rebellious behavior — breaking boundaries — standing up to the patriarchy — and most of all, loving her own life.

The singer signed off with a few lines from Beyoncé lyrics: “You won’t break my soul.” In response to Madonna’s post, Petras commented on three heart emojis.
