Suspected Serial Killer Finally Arrested After Over a Decade – Who is Rex Heuermann?

A suspect has finally been arrested in connection with a string of serial murders targeting sex workers that took place over a decade ago. But who is Rex Heuermann?

Between 2010 and 2011, eleven sets of human remains were found on Gilgo Beach.

This past Thursday, it was announced by the Suffolk County Police Commissioner that an unnamed male suspect had been arrested just past 8:30 that morning. 

The suspect has now been identified as Rex Heuermann, 59, architect and owner of the company RH Consultants and Associates, who only recently renovated an apartment on Central Park West. Other clients of his, according to his website, included Among his professional clients were John F. Kennedy International Airport, Catholic Charities, the city’s Department of Environmental Protection.

Law Enforcement Officers said that they discovered Heuermann and his potential involvement during a review of old evidence, including cell phone and tower data, a car registered to him at the time of the murders, and genetic material found on the remains that ended up being a match to his DNA.

Authorities have also stated that Heuermann searched over 300 times on Google for the names of the missing women he has been charged with killing, as well as podcasts and tv specials focusing on the case. Police said that after they executed more than 300 subpoenas, they were able to identify multiple different burner phones that Heuermann used previously. He was taken into custody at his office 385 Fifth Ave.

Heuermann has pled not guilty in relation to these cases, including three counts of first and second-degree murder. He has been ordered to be held without bail.
