Guess which city steals the spotlight in your favorite TV shows and songs? It’s none other than the star-studded New York City! Time Out, one of the biggest media companies, says it’s the best city for 2024.
Time Out spoke to around 20,000 people living in cities worldwide and their team of writers and editors who then made a list of the coolest cities globally. They looked at things like yummy food, cool buildings, and exciting events.
Time Out aims to inspire travel and show what life is like in cities around the globe. New York City won the top spot because it has many museums and a buzzing theater scene, and people from all over the world want to move there.
A City of Contrasts: Cape Town Takes Second Place
Cape Town in South Africa snags the second spot. Everyone who took the survey said it’s “beautiful.” Why? Well, picture this: a mix of sea views, cityscapes, and big mountains. Time Out loves Cape Town’s cool cultural stuff, like nighttime museum events and fun shows at the Theatre on the Bay. They also mentioned the new Time Out Market Cape Town.
But there’s a flip side. Katy Scott, who grew up there, says not everyone gets to enjoy the fancy stuff. Cape Town has been free for 30 years, but the gap between rich and poor is still big.
To really know the city and its people, Katy suggests checking out important spots like Robben Island or the District Six Museum, both recommended by Time Out, to learn about South Africa’s history.
Completing the Top Five and More
Other awesome cities in Time Out’s top five include Berlin, Germany, famous for its lively nightlife; London, UK, known for its great pubs and free museums; and Madrid, Spain, praised for its amazing food and drinks.
The list doesn’t stop there. Liverpool, UK, grabs the seventh spot, and Porto, Portugal, takes the tenth. People in the survey said Porto is a fantastic city for romance.
Grace Beard, the editor at Time Out, says all these cities share a strong community spirit and a great vibe. So, if you’re looking for cool places to visit in 2024, these cities should be in your bucket list!
