SUV Driver in Treat Williams’ Death Charged with Gross Negligence

Last June 12, the world said goodbye to a legend in the acting industry, Treat Williams. The 71-year-old actor, unfortunately, perished in a road accident on Vermont Route 30. Williams was driving his motorcycle when an SUV crashed into him. He was airlifted to the Albany Medical Center promptly but was pronounced dead in the hospital.

According to the investigation conducted by the police, Williams seemed to be making a left or right when the SUV slammed into his motorcycle. The SUV driver didn’t appear until Tuesday, August 1, almost two months after the incident.

Ryan Koss, a 35-year-old resident of Dorset, surrendered himself to the authorities at Shaftsbury barracks on Tuesday. He was then processed and finally charged with gross negligence resulting in death.

Williams’ cause of death was ruled “severe trauma and blood loss as a result of the crash.” Koss, the suspect, is now being charged with a criminal offense for the incident.

Actors Pay Tribute to Treat Williams

Sympathy messages have poured out for Williams. Many of his coworkers recounted the good times working with the late actor. Williams had been prominent in the theatre scene, movies, and television. He had a recurring role in the series “Blue Bloods” up until his death. He has had iconic roles in big productions like “Hair,” “Everwood,” and a lot more. His almost 50 years of working in the entertainment industry were cut short by the incident.

His costars gave statements of grief and sympathy for Williams’ family. Billy Baldwin wrote, “He truly and deeply cared about what’s going on here in America and around the world. Climate change, social justice, freedom, truth, tolerance… love. Beloved by his family, friends, fans, colleagues… his community. A terrible loss. You will be missed. Rest in power Treat.”

Matt Selman recounted Williams’ role in The Simpson, saying “Treat Williams was hilarious on @TheSimpsons as both Gen. William Sullivan of the DVD-only movie “Pandora Strain” AND as himself, who didn’t remember being in it (“What? I’m in a lot of movies.”) He had a huge sense of humor & it was a blast to hang with him. Peace to you Treat!”

Mark Hamill, whom he worked with in The Empire Strikes Back, said, “Just heard the awful news that the world has lost @Rtreatwilliams. Such a wonderful person… such a gifted actor… such a treasured friend. I’m gutted.”

Needless to say, Treat Williams’ impact in the movie industry and on stage was deeply felt by everyone who had the opportunity of working with him. There is no news of when the trial for Ryan Koss, the SUV driver, is going to happen. But it’s a fact that the entertainment lost another star with Treat Williams’ death.
